  Syrah Grape
Syrah Grape
Shiraz or Syrah is a variety of grape used in wine. The names are interchangeable. It is called Syrah in France and most often in the United States. In South Africa, Australia, and Canada it is most commonly known as Shiraz. The name of the grape Shiraz was taken from that of the city of Shiraz in Persia/Iran, where the process of wine making possibly originated 7000 years ago. The archaeological evidence unearthed at the site of Hajji Firuz Tepe in northwestern Iran has firmly established that the wine itself has originated in the province region of Azerbaijan in that country around seven thousand years ago.

  Merlot Grape
Merlot Grape
Merlot is a variety of wine grape used to create a popular red wine. Merlot-based wines usually have medium body with hints of berry and plum. Its softness and fleshiness, combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot an ideal grape to blend with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. For the last decade or so, many Merlots have been made in a style that has become popular with newer, less experienced red wine drinkers (although good Merlots accompanying appropriate food are popular with many more experienced wine drinkers as well).

  Cabernet Sauvignon Grape
Cabernet Sauvignon Grape
Cabernet Sauvignon is a variety of red grape mainly used for wine production, and is, along with Chardonnay, one of the most widely-planted of the world's noble grape varieties. The principal grape in many Bordeaux wines, it is grown in most of the world's wine regions, although it requires a long growing season to ripen properly and gives low yields. The particularly thick skin of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape results in wines that can be high in tannin which provides both structure and ageability. This varietal, while frequently aromatic and with an attractive finish, also tends to lack mid-palate richness and so is often blended with lower tannin, but "fleshy" tasting grapes to help the balance.

  Tempranillo Grape
Tempranillo Grape
Tempranillo is a variety of the red grape used commonly in winemaking. It is native to northern Spain and widely cultivated in both northern and central Spain It is also fairly common in Argentina, and plays a minor role in the wines of two regions of Portugal. Tempranillo is now grown in many Australian wine regions including McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. There are now over 100 Australian wineries making wine from this variety. The Tempranillo grape sets very well but is very sensitive to pests and disease and not very resistant to drought or high temperatures.
